Sunday, December 5, 2010

It's the second week of December 2010 and there are only 19 business days left
for the month, quarter and year. It's time to make that last push for this year and
to set goals for 2011.

This past Thursday, which was the first day of Hanukkah, I had the pleasure of
being in the audience when Jeff Piersall, CEO of Space Coast Media Group
spoke at a local business luncheon here in Melbourne. The talk Jeff gave was
not only informative, stimulating and thought provoking but it honored the spirit of
that sacred holiday.

Jeff spoke of UCLA's Coach Wooden. John Wooden won ten NCAA National
Championships in a 12-year period; seven consecutively. No other NCAA
basketball coach has accomplished that feat. During that time, his team won 88
consecutive games. Coach John Wooden never talked about winning to his
teams. He only talked about performing at their best when it was time to be their
best. Coach Wooden documented his philosophy in a book titled "Wooden on
Leadership".

Jeff went on to talk about John Wooden's "Pyramid of Success". The first level is
5 blocks wide. The corner stones of that level are Enthusiasm (Joy) and
Industriousness (Work). Then, by building out the next 3 levels, 10 more building
blocks, you will reach the 4th level and receive the gift of Poise and Confidence.
The 5th level being the best you can be when it's necessary to be your best.

It is important to take time to reflect on the times you performed your best and
recognize that when you were at your best, you were winning! I know you have
had some wins...personal, family, business, or spiritual; it doesn't matter what
part of your life the WIN occurred, just as long as you realize that it was a win.
Tell someone about it and then set an action goal to get a win in the coming
week.

The holidays are upon us; companies and people will buy this month and people
will make decisions for 2011. Use every day to ensure the future you want.
Take action now and plant seeds for the future.

As we celebrate the miracles of the season let us reflect on the past and look
forward to the future. Be the best you can when it is necessary to be your best.

This week for The National Entrepreneurs Network–Space Coast Chapter:

Monday Dec 6th - 7:30 AM Monday Morning Motivators – Duran Golf Club - Get
energized in the AM Share your WINs from the previous week and your goals for
the coming week.

Monday Dec 6th - 9:00 AM - Not-for-Profit ISC Planning Meeting: The Not for
Profit Industry Support Council (ISC) planning committee will be meeting to
discuss the development, goals, meeting times, and roles of the council. Anyone
interested in serving on the council, or having helpful insights or
recommendations is welcome to attend.

Wednesday Dec 8th - 12:00 Noon - Strategic Doing/Workforce Learning ISC
Meeting at Duran Golf Club – For companies, learning institutions, and training
professionals...We will be discussing where to go from here in workforce training
and will be looking for input from companies on their current and future needs of

To your continued success.

Can Local Leaders be Experts

Here I am on the eve of the second Monday of the 11th month of 2010.
There are 15 business days left this month and 37 in the quarter. Not
counting Holidays. That's 54 calendar days. Thanksgiving is just weeks
away. What a time to launch a new product or an event. It's Holiday
time everybody takes off. Right?

Not me! Monday night I'll be in Kissimmee as the out of town expert.
Speaking on the "Fundamental Building Blocks of Business" particularly
as they apply to Business Credit and Capital development.

I'll be doing that same talk a week later in Merritt Island. Same guy,

same material but now I'm a local presenter versus being the out of
town guy. Now the pressures on. My friend Bruce Kuczinski a national
expert and local guy is speaking Tuesday at the Cocoa Beach Chamber
at 3:30 pm on "Keeping and Protecting your Income".

I just watched a couple of local friends of mine. You may know them

Chris McClatchy and Lisa Kay Hansen. They spoke in Tampa at an
out of town event. I was fortunate enough to be able to watch them
on the internet in real time. They were awesome and truly
demonstrated themselves as experts.

How could that be? They are local business people they can't be taken

seriously. I have come to realize that is a common misconception.
Aside from Chris and Lisa I know quite a few national speakers who
live within 50 miles of my house. Does that mean because they are
local they are not experts? The rest of the county sees them as experts.

It constantly amazes me that local business owners don't see national

speakers who are part of our local community in the same light. What
a resource we have right here in our back yard. I don't ever want to
lose sight of that. To go hear and experience them is typically a short
car ride, no airfare, no airport security, no hotel or lodging. Just
awesome content that can affect both of our businesses. And when
it's over I can go home to my own bed. When I think about it, this
is a really awesome place to live.

The founder of the National Entrepreneurs Network Tom Fulmer

is off this week on a Speaking tour. A local guy who is a national
trainer and speaker. When he returns he will be conducting a
boot camp on what he was speaking about on the road "Winning
Presentation Skills".

I'll be presenting and facilitating as usual at Monday Morning

Motivators. It would be great to see you there. I know it's early.
Where else can you start the week off with like minded
entrepreneurs. Monday Morning Motivators is not a networking
event, it is not a leads group, it is not a hello my name is function.
It is a place where you can draw on the energy of other entrepreneurs.
It is a place where you can motivate others with your experiences and
be motivated by theirs. It is a great way to start the week.

I look forward to seeing you there.

This is a really busy week for Space Coast Entrepreneurs and it's members.

Another week has come and gone

Today is Halloween, it just hit me, the reality of it. I realize that it’s here and I’m thinking how did this happen? It was just the 4th of July! What happened to the time? There are just under 9 weeks left until the end of 2010. The clock continues to tick and I find myself asking how am I spending my time. Am I where I want to be?

My memory goes back to Oct 2003 it was Halloween, we had arrived here in Melbourne. Moving lock stock and barrel from NJ. What a sight it was, a 3 vehicle caravan, a U-Haul Truck, a Van pulling a trailer and a Saturn packed with everything we owned and 3 cats to start a new life. It’s been 7 years now and it is plainly obvious to me that I am a different person today. Life has certainly been interesting since Gloria and I arrived here.

Without getting into it, I realize now more than ever that Time is the most important asset that I own and more importantly, that it can not be replaced. I ask myself daily what is the single best use of my time. Am I on a daily basis, doing the things that will get me closer to my goal? Am I moving towards my vision? Am I spending time with loved ones?

One of the lessons from this year is a hard learned one. Always make sure you have a plan “B”. Deals don’t always work out like you want them to. You have to be ready for the unexpected. Have a contingency plan ready for when things don’t go as planned. The corollary to that is this, do what is necessary to keep your pipeline full.

The best thing that happened to me so far this year was becoming the Director of Space Coast Entrepreneurs. This club has been helpful to me personally especially getting through the deals that didn’t make it. Getting close to the goal and then having it vanish due to no fault of your own can be very disheartening. Associating with like minded entrepreneurs really helps. I realized that I was in business for myself, not by myself.

Last week the members of Space Coast Entrepreneurs got together for Monday Morning Motivators, The Business Leaders Lunch and the weekly training which was a special Hotel event on Doing Business with the Government, B2G. Each event went well, attended by members and guests alike.

The support of the club was really well demonstrated at the Business Leaders Lunch. That is a bi-weekly event that allows the members to hone their presentation skills. Frank Dimond as Host and Jerry Barvitskie as speaker. Both did an awesome job. It was a first for each one and they really stepped up. Neither would have had the opportunity had it not been for the club.

That is what the club is about helping and supporting. I learned this saying from Bruce Kuczinski and it makes a lot of sense. “Some times you need the meeting and other times the meeting needs you.”

The Business to Government seminar was just flat out informative. The Gov’t is a huge purchaser of goods and services and they are mandated to do 20% of their business with small businesses. Randy Mauldin has an excellent understanding of how the process works and he provided an excellent overview of how to go about doing it.

It’s time once again for Monday Morning Motivators.

Join us at 7:30am for breakfast at Duran Golf Club. Mix and mingle with like minded entrepreneurs. Talk about your wins from last week and your affirmations for the coming week.

The club is about you, me and all the members.
We benefit from meeting and supporting each other.

Our income will be the average of our 5 closest friends.
With the members of Space Coast Entrepreneurs as
our friends our odds are greatly improved.

See you Monday Morning.

Dig your well before your thirsty.

I want to be in business for myself.
Those are words that many have uttered to themselves.

I'm sending this to you because you have made that a priority in your life.
The journey is not easy, the odds are against you and there are many obstacles.

The stumbling blocks can be significant. They can be a brick wall that appears
insurmountable, a speed bump that slows you down or just a bug on the wind
shield that's just a minor annoyance.

Whats important is that you are digging that well.
I want to hear how you're doing with the well digging.

Are you sitting around thinking about digging?
Have you determined the spot to start digging?
What kind of tools are you using for digging?
Did you hit a big rock while you were digging?

Was the process smooth and uneventful?
Did you have to stop and make adjustments?
There are many aspects and phases to the process of digging your well.

If you're not doing so good with your well digging then you need the meeting.
If you're doing really good with your well digging then the meeting needs you.

Bring your well digging wins or losses.
Start the week with a win by making it to Monday Morning Motivators.

Some days start off like a horse out of the gate

Recap of the Oct 18th Monday Morning Motivators

Some days start off like a horse out of the gate at Chruchill Downs. That was me this morning. I was up early and at the desk way before the the dawn. That is pretty easy these days with dawn coming after 7:00am. I’d been working since 5:30 and was quite preoccupied with a task when I realized that it was time to get on the way to the event. I dropped what I was doing and dashed out the door. Listening to a lecture in the car it wasn’t until I arrived and started meeting some guests that I realized I had forgotten the attendance list, my magnifier glasses and my name badge. Now this could have been a life loss and ruined my day. However, all it happened to be was a bug on the windshield. This event, this Monday morning, these people who I was getting together with were far too important to let those little things get me down.

I was happy to see everyone who made it out this morning, and missed those of you who were not able to make it. Some of you let me know that you wouldn’t be there. Thank you for that. This week was especially full of wins and there were accomplishments from last weeks affirmations. It has been taught to me that “What comes out of your mouth goes into your pocket” so the clearer you are the more effective you will be. That was clearly evident this morning. I heard big wins that have been in motion for over a year and another that was in play for 8 months. Both wins were a fine example of sequencing at work. Others talked about little wins some just listened. Sometimes you need the meeting, other times the meeting needs you.

The Monday Morning Motivators is a group unlike any I have have experienced. It’s by, for and about entrepreneurs. When you are in business for yourself you are doing it alone. These Monday morning events give me support from like minded business people. People who just may have been through what I am going through. Like minded entrepreneurs with a different perspective. A perspective that just may get me over an obstacle. An obstacle that I otherwise would not have been able to see my way around.

It’s awesome how much entrepreneurial talent was in that room. As this Monday morning event grows the entrepreneurial talent in the room will be mind boggling.

Stop by and see for yourself. In todays economy the small business owner needs all the help they can get. I know I do!

Any time you win you gain confidence!

Any time you win you gain confidence!

Appreciate the significance of these words.
What comes out of your mouth goes into your pocket.

My affirmation for last week was to arrange for 2 speaking opportunities
for the Business Credit module of my Building Blocks of Business program.
I’m 2 for 2 how about you? Affirmations put it out there and then do it.

Those wins led to other wins. Winning is about putting the Fundamental
Building Blocks in sequence One by One.

How about those miners in Chile. That was a pretty big Win.
Team work and attitude brought them through.
Hope winning out against the odds.

The same is true for you.

Bring your wins big or small.

Recap of Business Leaders Lunch 12 Oct 2010

Sometimes you are wrapped up in a project, you know there is
something on the calendar. Yet, you feel like blowing it off. I'll
just stay here and keep doing what I was doing. Or better yet
something else popped up that seemed much more interesting.

What to do? I experienced those exact emotions this morning.
It was getting close to the time for me to leave for the Business
Leaders Lunch. I was wrapped up in a project that I am still
working on. I reached a stopping point and left for the event.

I was 10 minutes late, not a good example. However, I was
there before the program started. I wanted to show my support
for Marty Ward who was hosting and Frank Haven who was the
speaker.

When the program started I was mesmerized. This was a side
of Frank Haven that I had never seen before and his topic, Literary
Classics just drew me right in. It was like listening to a story
on the car radio. You know one of those where you are listening
on the way home and sit in the car so you can hear it to the end.

This was live and the examples he was using from the books
were as relevant today as they were when they were written.
When you have a chance to experience something live, do it.
Just listening to an audio isn't the same. Nor does it have
the impact.

It was an excellent experience & I'm very happy that I went.

This Thursday our Business Skills Workshop is titled
"Selling with Style" Hosted by Bruce Kuczinski and
taught by Tom Fulmer. It starts at 3:30pm and goes
till 5:00pm. Make sure to RSVP as seating is limited.

Recap of Monday Morning Motivators 11 Oct 2010

Hi everybody,

It has been an awesome day so far. Getting started with the Monday Morning
Motivators really gets you going. Nothing like starting off, out of the gate getting
some momentum for the day and the week. When you get momentum started
it's hard to slow down.

We had a nice group there this morning. Attendance isn't mandatory at any
of our events. It's just nice to see you all and to share our entrepreneurial and
life experiences with each other. Talking about our wins and making affirmations.
That's what keeps me showing up especially at 7:30 Monday morning.

Being in business for yourself is not easy. I like the feeling of being part of
something bigger than me. It helps me realize that I'm in business for myself,
not by myself. That sense of community carries through to the events. I was
chatting with Bruce Kuczinski the other day and he expounded this line of
thinking to me. I couldn't agree more and this it what he said. "When you
have had a good week and things are going well then the club needs you.
When things didn't really go as planned then you need the club."
That is what makes this so effective. Entrepreneurs supporting entrepreneurs.

Tomorrow Tuesday 12 Oct is the every other Tuesday Business Leaders Lunch.
We are meeting at Duran Golf Club, gather at 11:45, Start at 12:00, Finish at 1:00.
This should be a good one. Marty Ward is hosting and Frank Haven is presenting.
I'm really looking forward to it. Come on out and join us.

Looking Forward to Monday Morning Motivators Oct 11 2010

Bring your WINs to Monday Morning Motivators
7:30am Monday Morning at Duran Golf Club.

When it comes to powerful life strategies positive thinking, visualizations
and positive affirmations make all the difference. It truly is possible to
achieve whatever you want. When you utilize these powerful success
strategies you develop personal power and gain a competitive edge.

Join us for Monday Morning Motivators, where weekly, we expound on
these techniques utilizing positive affirmations and positive thinking.
Every week we meet and share our WINs from the previous week.

The WINs can be small or large. If you feel that the week was a
bust then come and receive the power from the group. If you had
a significant win, then the group needs you!

Wins are cumulative! Little wins make a big win. A win can be anything
from getting up on time, getting to a meeting on time, or just showing up.
A win can be finishing a presentation, making that phone call, seeing
that prospective new client, getting 10 No's.

Winning big is the culmination of many little wins. The Big wins just
don't happen. The big wins come because you did little things to make
them happen. Success is a series of steps taken in the proper sequence.
A series of steps that have been taken which move you in the right direction.

Vince Lombardi arguably one of the best coaches in the history of
professional football said "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's
an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things
right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is
habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."

If you feel that you have no wins then you need the meeting.
If you know that you have had wins then the meeting needs you.

Remember your income in the next 5 years will be the average of your
5 closest friends. By associating with other successful like minded
people you can improve your odds of winning in the game of life.

See you Monday Morning at 7:30 am Duran Golf Club, Viera, FL

Cust service revisited

Well the Mobile Phone company cut the service off again. Bill paid on time, service upgrade requested and they messed it up 3 times. Service Suspended twice and still no data service. I am happy to say that 3 times a charm. Finally last night 2 hours after I hung up with cust service my mobile was working normally again. Lets see if they got the billing right.

Saturday, October 9, 2010

The decline of customer service in the 21st century

I have spent 3 hours on the phone with the customer service for my mobile phone. I won't mention the company name because they are all the same. I requested the addition of unlimited Texting to my plan, I was on the pay as you go plan. It was to take affect when the new billing cycle started. The bill was paid by Credit Card as usual and then the Data Plan stopped working. I called cust service and it just went down hill from there. The phone was disconnected for not paying the bill, which was paid automatically and on time. The data plan still doesn't work. I spent 3 hours talking to 2 out of 3 people who I could not understand their accents. That is probably why they say that I still owe money and don't have my data plan working. That was with my mobile carrier.

Now customer service with one of my banks. When your sitting in the office talking with "a personal banker" everything is ok however when you get on the phone with some anonymous voice that is when it goes south quickly. This is a call center I hear. It is maddening Time is wasted and nothing is accomplished. That was a wasted hour and nothing accomplished.

I spent 4 hours of my Friday on the phone with customer service. Nothing was accomplished. I have to call again on Monday and start over again. What a wast of time. Am I the only one who feels the frustration.

Welcome to the new world.

Bomb Scare in New York's Times Square May 2nd 2010

Just when you thought it was safe to go out side.

My wife her daughters and one of her grandchildren were in sitting in Times Square having tea before the incident. They left the area before the official evacuation. She called me at 23:08 to let me know they were ok. I was sleeping at the time. She thought that I might be watching the local news. When I turned it on there was nothing about NYC and a Bomb Scare. The local stations in my market are really good at infotainment not news. It seems someone parked a Nissan Pathfinder erratically on the street. The driver left the vehicle with the engine running, the fourways flashing and an amature bomb in the back. It didn't explode but sure did cause a lot a trouble. The result was the disruption of normal activity in Times Square. I'm sure glad that was all that happened.

I was thinking about a conversation that I had with Malcolm Forbes back in the 80's when I was a younger man.

Here is what I remember

Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are
.

On being an Effective and Successful CEO

On the National Entrepreneurs Network TV inaugural edition Broadcast last night which can be viewed at http://www.spacecoastentrepreneurs.com These points were brought up about what it takes to be an effective and successful CEO. This isn't new material. We have all heard it before. Vince Lombardi was an effective and successful leader! Why? He reinforced the fundamentals to his team. So here are some of the fundamentals of being an effective and successful CEO: Be a good listener; Don't wear blinders; Think outside of the box; Have the right person do the job and the corollary to that is this, Rarely is it you; Have a Mentor; Don't make assumptions. This is not an all encompassing or all inclusive list. However, if followed these basic fundamental principles will help you be an effective and successful CEO.

do not pass the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act:

Sent to Congressman Bill Posey, Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas, Senator Bill Nelson and Senator George LeMieux. I asked each of them to look at the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act and it's ill effect on the economy.

This is what I said:

Please look into the following and help to keep it from passing this is critical to the economic recovery.

Document ID: HUD-2009-0155-0001: FR–5271–P–01 SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act: HUD Responsibilities Under the SAFE Act

Comment Tracking Number: 80a916c3
I would like the definitions in the proposed rules to be changed so that private individuals can originate and service loans on properties they personally own.

· bank loans are not available on some types of properties
· the tight lending climate has made bank financing "out of reach" for many
· seller financing is an "age old" tradition based on private property rights
· these rules would prohibit even partial seller financing - i.e. a "seller second"
· according to HUD's "Residential Finance Survey" in 2001, roughly 40% of all non-farm residential properties in the US are owned free and clear
· an estimated 6 million Americans own a property other than their own primary residence
· an estimated 4.5% of Americans own three or more properties, many purchased solely as investment properties
· 40% of non-owner occupied residences are mobile homes which are more difficult to sell with bank financing
· approximately 5% of homes in US are for sale or for lease... seller financing may be key to liquidating this inventory

Please do not pass this rule
